The Capri 14.2 Nationals were held at Mission Bay in San Diego on the 20th and 21st of September. The members of the Mission Bay Yacht Club were terrific hosts. I encourage our members to visit them if in the San Diego area. It is a great club. There were four races on Saturday and three on Sunday. Several of the courses took an hour to finish. At the completion of Saturday’s racing, Skipper Bob Amenta and Crew Mark Miller were tied for 1st place with a team from Arizona. Sunday had a grueling three races each took an hour to complete without a break. When the results were tallied, our Club team won first place in the Silver division. All the sailors were gracious and happy that WYC Port #1 was back in business.
The Louise Kapus regatta was held on Sunday October 12th. All classes were invited to participate. Louise was a strong supporter of our sailing program. She was present at all of our regattas, sitting in her wheelchair registering the sailors and their boats. Many of us gray beards remember her with fondness. I will have the results of this regatta, the Trick or Treat regatta and the Skipper of the Year regatta in the December issue of Telltales.
The Skipper of the Year regatta has been postponed to November 23rd. The Sailing Committee decided to wait until the results of the Kapus & Trick or Treat regattas.
The Committee also notified the Junior sailors regarding the usage of Club boats. Junior sailors may use the Club boats on our lake on occasions where a chase boat is present and operated by a Club member. No junior member may take a Club boat to away regattas unless their parents are regular, single or family members of the Club. Only club members may pull our trailers and they are responsible for returning and storing the boats and trailers.
See you on the water
