The 2009 Sail-A-Thon was a great success. Fifteen junior sailors participated. Hayden Luff sailed the most laps and his name will be added to the perpetual trophy. The money raised will be presented to the Westlake Nautical Foundation. Last year we bought a new Sabot for our juniors and we were able to give three scholarships to juniors for our Summer Sailing Academy.
The Sail committee decided to request the purchase of a Laser Radial to be used by our high school sailors at away competitions. The Nautical Foundation will meet this month and take our request under consideration.
The next regatta at the club will be on August 23rd. It is the Vrooman Sabot High Point Series. The series consists of ten races held from Santa Barbara to King Harbor. The Vrooman is the first in the ten regatta series. WYC also will host the 6th in the Series next March. We are expecting many sailors from many yacht clubs as well as our own. Registration is from 1100-1200 and the Skipper's meeting will be at 1230 hours.
