Olympic Gold Medal Regatta

The Olympic God Medal Regatta is in honor of two WYC sailors who won the medal at the 1988 Soul Olympics. Allyson Jolly and Lynn Jewel were club sailors who won the medal in the 420 class competing against the best women sailor in the world. They were the first women to win a gold medal in sailing.

Following in their footsteps, Megan Stephens won the perpetual trophy for the second straight year. Megan won sailing in a Sabot.

SCYA Midwinter Regatta

The Southern California Yachtracing Association sponsors the Midwinter regatta every year to celebrate the opening of the sailing season. At Westlake Yacht Club three classes of boats participated. The results were as follows...
C14-First Place Skipper Robert Amenta and Crew Mark Miller
Second Place: Skipper Michael Eisenberg, Crew Sturt Kovalivker
C-18-First Place: Charles Bornhauser, Crew Rear Commodore Rob Schaefer
CFJ- First Place:Skipper Derek Thomas, Crew Jeff Simonsgaard
Second Place: Skipper Phoebe Gittleson, Crew Aidan Wahl
Third Place: Skipper Angek Wang, Crew Peter Ruffner (CSUN)

The winds were light and only a few races were held. Other clubs reported that the winds were very light throughout Southern California. This did not deminish the spirit of the sailor who were grateful to get out on the water again.
