Alice Robinson Memorial Regatta

The Alice Robinson Memorial will take place on Sunday, July 25th at the WYC. The event is for all classes of boats.

Entry:
Registraion is from 1100 hours to 1200 hours on race day. Entry fee is $10 which includes lunch and snacks.
Schedule:
Skipper's meeting will be held at 1230 hours. Three or more races will be
sailed, weather and wind permitting. First start will be at 1300 hours or when
the wind permits.
Life Jackets must be worn!

Summer Sailing Academy

We have completed two sessions of our Summer Sailing Academy. Thirty sailors have participated and are now sailing as Juniors.

The third and final session will start on Monday, August 2 at 11 a.m. and finish on August 12th with a graduation BBQ. The first week begins on Monday and runs through Friday and the second week starts on Monday and is completed on Thursday. There is a BBQ Thursday evening for the sailors and their families.

When the final session is completed we will have about 45 young junior sailors. All are invited to participate in the Vrooman regatta on Sunday, August 22. This race is only for Sabot sailors. Beginning sailors will compete in the "C" class. Intermediate sailors will sail in the "B" class.

Sailors from other clubs will also be competing because this is the first race of the year for Sabot sailors. Points will be award toward the championship. There are ten races throughout the year and the sailors compete at various yatch clubs in the southland. We encourage all of our young sailors to sail and practice their skills. Instructors will be available to help.

"ROUND ISLAND RACE

The July 4th "Round the Island Race" was well attended. The young Sabot sailors were given a 15 minute head start and then all the other sailboats played catch up. Hundreds of spectators watched and cheered and encourged them. It was particularly exciting at the bridge. Most of the sailors flipped their boats sideways and pushed them under the bridge. Other adventurous mariners, walked their boats along the abuttment of the bridge. On the other side, they bailed and climbed back into their boats and completed the race home to the club.

Staff Commodore Scott Vandenberg (Age Unknown) won the adult division and Claire Whitney (Age 9) won the junior division. All of the sailors completed the race and met at the club for refreshments. Scott was skipper of a C-14 and his crew included his wife Lovita and their grandaughter Abrigal. Claire is the grandaughter of Jan and David Whitney. She lives in Thousand Oaks and just began sailing two weeks ago.

The next regatta is the Alice Robinson Memorial on Sunday July 25th. All club sailors are encouraged to participated.
